ASUS laptop choices: compare the exact Zenbook and Vivobook suffixes
Compare UX3405MA and M5406WA manufacturer platform references, separating Thunderbolt, USB4, onboard memory and global options from a verified UK order.
Updated:

The suffix identifies the platform that the shop name hides
Compare ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED UX3405MA with Vivobook S14 M5406WA when choosing between these two documented ASUS platforms. The Zenbook UK specification menu lists Intel Core Ultra 100-series options including 155H. The Vivobook global manufacturer page lists Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 or Ryzen AI 9 365 for the WA column. Those are actual platform identities, not a promise that every product called Zenbook14 or VivobookS14 has the same processor and connections.
Choose from the actual required memory, applications and accessories. The Zenbook reference offers Thunderbolt 4 connections, while the WA Vivobook column documents USB4 plus another lower-speed USB-C connection. If a required accessory explicitly depends on Thunderbolt certification or a particular host path, resolve that requirement before treating a similar-looking socket as equivalent. We have not measured a performance winner or verified a current price comparison.
| Manufacturer platform reference | Zenbook UX3405MA | Vivobook M5406WA |
|---|---|---|
| Processor menu example | Intel Core Ultra 7 155H | Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 or AI 9 365 |
| USB-C arrangement | Two Thunderbolt 4, up to 40 Gb/s | One USB4 40 Gb/s; one USB 5 Gb/s |
| Other connection examples | USB-A, HDMI, audio | Two USB-A, HDMI, audio, microSD |
| Memory arrangement | Onboard LPDDR memory | Onboard LPDDR memory |
| Source-market boundary | ASUS UK platform menu | ASUS global WA platform column |

Do not borrow another suffix’s best feature
ASUS’s current UK UX3405 page separately names MA and CA variants. The global M5406 page separately names NA, UA, WA and KA. A feature belonging to one column cannot be transferred to another by retaining only the family number. The M5406 NA column, for example, has a different USB-C arrangement from the WA reference in this comparison. Ask for the complete product suffix rather than accepting an incomplete catalogue title.
The same discipline applies to displays. Platform menus include different resolutions, refresh rates, touch options and regional offerings. A review of a 2880 × 1800 panel does not describe an order with 1920 × 1200. Compare the actual supplied panel against the work you intend to do, and keep the processor, memory and storage selection with it. A manufacturer maximum from one line is not a complete configuration.
Onboard memory is a purchase-time requirement
The checked UK Zenbook MA menu lists 16 GB or 32 GB onboard memory and 512 GB or 1 TB SSD options. Those are distinct purchase configurations: confirm the installed capacity rather than assuming a later memory upgrade or assigning the larger SSD to every listing. Compare the actual project and offline-file requirements against the exact offered configuration before judging its suitability.
Both named platform menus describe onboard memory. Identify the installed capacity and its actual maximum in the chosen configuration before ordering; do not assume that a generic memory module can be added later. The historical DDR4 module below is a physical counterexample, not a supported part for these onboard-memory designs. External storage is also not a substitute for the working memory an application requires.
The manufacturer storage menus describe specific M.2 formats and PCIe interfaces. A photographed Samsung SSD illustrates the need to identify the component; it is not approval to fit that drive, a speed test or an installation guide. If future serviceability is decisive, consult the exact official model documentation or ask the supplier for the supported service route rather than inferring access from another ASUS laptop.

A global specification still needs a local purchase record
The old UK Vivobook address checked for this guide now leads to a family page, so the detailed WA comparison uses ASUS’s global technical page and labels that boundary explicitly. It does not establish UK availability, keyboard layout, included charger or a current retail offer. Confirm the full UK product code with the seller before treating the global menu as the supplied basket. The Zenbook UK page also qualifies accessories and charger inclusion by country, region and model.
For either route, list charging, external displays, storage and any required receiver together. Match the actual host protocol, dock, cable and power requirements; the USB-C photograph is from another computer and proves no current ASUS compatibility. We have not verified stock, delivery or a complete local price winner. The useful shortlist is a documented platform and configuration that meets the work, with the unresolved market and inclusion questions retained until the seller supplies the exact order details.
